Our Story

Fastnet Marine Outdoor Education Centre is an Irish Sailing certified Outdoor Education centre, located on the water's edge in the stunning Schull Harbour. We cater to a wide variety of sailing requirements: dinghy courses, day sails, keelboat courses, coaching, events, as well as powerboat courses. ​The Centre is based in Schull, the largest village on the Mizen Peninsula, renowned for the beauty of its rugged landscape and ancient heritage. Schull is protected from the north by Mount Gabriel, once the site of a prehistoric mining operation. The prevailing south-westerly winds that travel more than two thousand miles of open sea means the air here is always clear and clean. The safe and welcoming harbour, the many islands offshore, and the Atlantic Ocean beyond provide an excellent backdrop for the centre and the many activities we provide. Yes- it is definitely worth the journey!

We are proud providers of Outdoor Education in West Cork, through activities such as kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, rock climbing, hillwalking, bushcraft skills and environmental education to name a few. Furthermore, FMOEC is ideally located and equipment to host residential experiences, a key tenet in Outdoor Education provision.

Located in the picturesque Roaringwater Bay, our centre provides access to same of the greatest gems of the Southern coast of Ireland, including views of Ireland's teardrop- Fastnet Rock, Cape Clear, and Sherkin Island. In closer proximity, Long Island is situated a stone's throw away and offers a unique landscape for shore-based environmental and place-based education.
