The day started with a pursuit race to give all sailors a chance to get used to the boats.
As the day went on the wind increased so reefs were put in all boats. With only one race finished in 25 knots, the rest of the races were cancelled.

Schools regatta 2008
Great conditions for this year's Schools Regatta in July.
This regatta has proved itself as one of the best beginners regattas on the sailing calendar, with silver and bronze fleets serving sailors who can sail but have never raced, to sailors with a bit of racing behind them.
This allows sailors with equal standards to race without intimidation from more experienced sailors - and as a beginner it is great to see yourself at the front of the fleet.
Schull Sailing Team Tour of the U.S.
8 Sailors from Schull Community College travelled to the north-east of the U.S. on what was a very successful trip, travelling from school to school - training and competing with 5 different schools every afternoon.
The schools visited were
Duxbury
Nantucket
Tabor
Portsmouth
St Georges
We found our team racing skills were as good, if not bette, than the American teams but we were not as fast. This was due to a number of issues - different boats, new sailing grounds, cold conditions, lack of fleet racing etc.
In general we won fifty to sixty percent of our races.
Hopefully some of the friendships built over the visit will encourage U.S. Teams to visit Schull in the future.
