BRITISH SCHOOLS TEAM

RACING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009

SCHULL TEAM COMES THIRD!

Twenty two teams took part

in the above championships at

Bough Beech Sailing Club in Kent,

an event which is growing annually.

The Schull team was represented

by Shane Newman, Ross Murray, Connor Miller, Katie Moynihan, Ellen O'Regan and Kasper Snashall, with

sub Oisin O'Driscoll.  They had a great

first day with 7 wins and only one

loss , seeding the team in the top group for the final day. The second day results were again excellent

with four wins and one loss putting

them in second place overall.  This gave them a place in the semi-final, where they won one out of three races against Sevenoaks, finishing

third overall.   Congratulations to all.

 

The YOUTH NATIONALS

were held at the FMOEC from

14-17 April.  163 boats attended

with 2 race courses - an outside

course for 420s, Laser Radials

and 4.7s and inside course for

Fevas, Toppers and Optimists.

The IRISH NATIONAL TEAM RACING

CHAMPIONSHIPS took place on

SATURDAY 28th AND SUNDAY 29th

MARCH at the FMOEC.  The results were:

1st Place - George Knights

2nd Place - South County Rebels

3rd Place - TCL

 

OPPY TRAINING CAMP 2009

The annual National Optimist dinghy winter

training week was again a huge success with 150 sailors and 11 coaches taking part.  There are

plans to turn this into a biannual event, with the next camp taking place in the October mid-term break.

Centre gets a face lift, with new car park, double the size, as well as a larger area for rigging and launching.

A new dinghy hard standing area with enough space to fit 90 Optimists

 

Elenora 5

Elenora wins Antigua Classic Week 08, with 50% of the crew Irish.

Elenora is 160 feet gaff schooner and crewed by 40 people.

David Harte was tactician and said

"It was one of the most awesome boats I have ever sailed on"

Instructors 2007

Many thanks to all Instructors for a great summer, the standard of instructors has been excellent and can be seen with the feed back and responses from students from all levels that the courses run at the F.M.O.E.C. are at a very high standard and yet keep the FUN element.

 

Schools Regatta 2007

87 Boats took part this year at the International Schools Regatta, in Schull 23rd to 26th July.

Up to 115 Optimists took part at the annual Optimist training camp in Schull.

The idea of the camp is to train for big fleet events.

Moonbeam wins classic boat regatta in Italy 

September 06

Crewed by a full Irish crew with David Harte as tactician.

This is the first time Moonbeam has won a regatta since 1920.
